Aperiodic message transmission within WorldFIP is a very complicated procedure because it is concerned with left time in a microcycle and must successively follow three different stages. To decrease pessimistic factors in WCRT of aperiodic message, we integrate the procedures of transmitting periodic message, identifying aperiodic request and transmitting aperiodic message together, and deduce a tightly bound for WCRT of aperiodic message. The result is validated by case study at last. Copyright2001 IFAC

Contributions for the Worst-Case Response Time Analysis of Real-Time Sporadic Traffic in WorldFIP Networks

In this paper we address the ability of WorldFIP to cope with the real-time requirements of distributed computercontrolled systems (DCCS). Typical DCCS include process variables that must be transferred between network devices both in a periodic and sporadic (aperiodic) basis. The WorldFIP protocol is designed to support both types of traffic. WorldFIP can easily guarantee timeliness requiremen...

Distributed Computing for the Factory-Floor: a Real-Time Approach using WorldFIP Networks

Field communication systems (fieldbuses) are widely used as the communication support for distributed computer-controlled systems (DCCS) within all sort of process control and manufacturing applications. There are several advantages in the use of fieldbuses as a replacement for the traditional point-to-point links between sensors/actuators and computer-based control systems, within which the mo...

Schedulability analysis of real-time traffic in WorldFIP networks: an integrated approach

The WorldFIP protocol is one of the profiles that constitute the European fieldbus standard EN-50170. It is particularly well suited to be used in distributed computer-controlled systems where a set of process variables must be shared among network devices. To cope with the real-time requirements of such systems, the protocol provides communication services based on the exchange of periodic and...

Energy Efficient Scheduling for Real-Time Systems with Mixed Workload

In spite of numerous inter-task dynamic voltage scaling (DVS) algorithms of real-time systems with either periodic tasks or aperiodic tasks, few of them were aimed at the mixed workload of both kind of tasks. A DVS algorithm for mixed workload real-time systems should not only focus on energy saving, but also should consider low response time of aperiodic tasks. In this paper, we develop an on-...

Experience with Sporadic Server Scheduling in Linux: Theory vs. Practice

Real-time aperiodic server algorithms were originally devised to schedule the execution of threads that serve a stream of jobs whose arrival and execution times are not known a priori, in a way that supports schedulability analysis. Well-known examples of such algorithms include the periodic polling server, deferrable server, sporadic server, and constant bandwidth server. The primary goal of a...
